I saw the idea for a bowling ball garden on one of my midcentury modern fb pages. Someone had posted a picture of her mother’s garden decorated with bowling balls. I am not really sure why it appealed to me, but it did.
I started to pick up bowling balls at Goodwill when I saw a color that interested me. I also picked up random metal baskets and candle holders to display my bowling balls in the garden. I was really excited when I found some candlepin bowling balls!
I would like to tell you that my neighbors found these sculptures to be odd but, they have come to realize that I am not your typical decorator. I am hoping that when my gardens fill in, the bowling ball sculptures will add a unique, colorful, and eye-catching addition to the plants.
This is a very clever way to repurpose bowling balls. I like how your third photo shows almost a flower. Your comment, “will add a unique, colorful, and eye-catching addition to the plants” reminds me of the gazing balls that many gardens have. Thank you for sharing.

Georgeous! Love the contrasts between the bowling balls and the baskets. Clever! (and a bargain!) 🙂

Such a unique idea. I have never noticed bowling balls at Goodwill Stores, especially those that actually look good together.

What an unusual garden! Love the idea, altho I’ve never seen a bowling ball at a thrift store here in Ontario.
