Anyone who really knows me, knows my love of vintage. I wanted to incorporate my passion into my classroom. Since I am a behavior teacher, I track student behavior. I wanted a fun, vintage, visual way for my students to track their progress. I decided on vintage campers. Each of my students has a camper icon that is traveling across the US mat at the front of my room. Each state has been identified by a retro postcard.
As the year has progressed, more campers have been added to the classroom and a variety of pink flamingos have joined the décor.
I am hoping that my passion has added some style, fun, and individuality to my classroom. In addition, I am hoping my student may have gained a little appreciation for knowledge about something they would not have learned about without this exposure.
I am always in awe of people with your level of creativity and artistic skills. These are amazing! I’m sure your kids love them, even if just unconsciously.

Hey those pink flamingos from Friday’s PD would fit in great with this theme (and your lifestyle!).
Bringing a part of ourselves into our classrooms is the art of teaching-you definitely have a unique style!!

Those vintage campers are cute. I think the best teachers bring something of themselves, and with it some vulnerability, into their classrooms.

What a clever idea! I think that students appreciate when we share our passions. It makes a little more human.

Love the campers! I picked up some pink flamingo lights recently. I think our display of passions in the classroom helps our students engage and uncover theirs.

I love those vintage campers. It has always been my dream to travel the country with my kids in a camper. But I think about how obnoxious they would be in the car and I think, “Oh, maybe that would be hellacious.” One day, maybe. One day.

What a great idea. We as teachers really need to share our passions with our students. They learn about us, but also that following one’s passion is important.

When teachers bring passions to class, they bring all of themselves…and I think, are more likely to have an awareness of kids’ passions and whole selves.
