Today I received and email from the Dean of students with a picture in the body of the email. She had written, “In the most loving way this made me think of you.”
Years ago, while working in a day-treatment facility, I decided that I was just going to be me. The staff was a unique group of people and the job required a sense of humor. I am silly, goofy, self-deprecating, and spazzy. It is my way of putting kids at ease and connecting with people. Years ago I may have been worried about how people perceive me as weird. At my age, I embrace it.
I love how your administrator phrased it: “in the most loving way.” So funny! I, too, find that bringing my goofiest self to the classroom works well.

We are who we are. If others don’t accept that it is their problem.

Love who you are! Sometimes I laugh. Sometimes I cringe. Sometimes I cry. Keep on keepin’ on!

That’s nice the embrace who you are.
The line ” the job required a sense of humor” left me wondering what’s behind. Sometimes it could be the cohort or the staff; or both?

In day-treatment, you face horror stories, violence, tragedy, and ridiculous circumstances. When you leave a situation covered in spit and bruises, you learn to find humor in things that people don’t find humor in…”Meh, I never really liked this shirt anyway.”

Oh wow, I can only imagine. That’s definitely the right attitude.
