behind-desk

My classroom is almost ready. I moved rooms over the summer so there was a lot of work to be done in my new space. Behind my desk I have a collection of pictures that are part of who I am. The pictures are from staff and students who have made an impact on me as a person and/or as a teacher. They’re not all up yet, because I ran out of the command strips which is the only way to keep things up on painted concrete.

Much like when I hang Christmas ornaments on my tree, hanging these pictures brings memories of past people and past places. They give me a sense of history and of personal growth. Leaving one school for another is never an easy process. I get attached to places and people and I don’t like to leave them behind. Taking a piece of their art allows me to take them with me, and allows me to reflect on how they have taught me to be a better teacher.
